Overview
Breathtaking, mind-blowing, beautiful mountain range you don't want to miss!
Single consistent stretch of beautiful mountain range that can be explored many ways. Weather you are driving through for a weekend or hiking every place you can. Grand Teton National Park will not disappoint.
This stop was third in our big Gem Mountain Sapphire Mine, Spencer Opal, Grand Tetons National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Spokane Bar Sapphire Mine adventure.
"Rising above a scene rich with extraordinary wildlife, pristine lakes, and alpine terrain, the Teton Range stands as a monument to the people who fought to protect it. These are mountains of the imagination. Mountains that led to the creation of Grand Teton National Park where you can explore over two hundred miles of trails, float the Snake River, and enjoy the serenity of this remarkable place.

Cost
For the most part National Park trip costs can be up to you. Most of your expense will be in gas and lodging. We tent camp a lot to get costs low when we really want to go somewhere. We also carry a good cooler with leftover plastic containers (for reuse and easy clean up) large yogurt containers are fantastic! We also use our stasher bags for food and our small, portable camping stove for low cost meals.
For us:
7N Campground - $40
Jackson Hole/Teton Village Waffles and Hot Chocolate - $12
National Park Stamp Sticker - $3
Souvenir Magnet and Sticker - $17
We cooked and packed most of our meals
Gas (this was our biggest expense because we had to drive quite a bit from our campsite each day)
Time Commitment
Our Grand Teton adventure in ONE DAY. The only time commitment you make is the time you want to spend. + the time to get you there.
We were happy with our one day experience, but could have used an extra day for some additional sightseeing and hiking. We would say 2-3 days max makes a great Grand Teton trip.
Planning
If you want to stay inside of Grand Teton National Park you must plan months in advance! There are some great campground and lodges to stay at but you will need to plan way ahead for reservations.
We stayed at the 7N Ranch Resort in Ririe, ID. This was one of the coolest places we have camped! The staff was friendly, the location was remote and beautiful and the price was right. They had mini golf, a driving range and an ice cream stand. Just down the road was a local pizza joint with a retro arcade. The location was a good drive from Grand Teton and Yellowstone but in late May when we went this was the closest we could get and stay within a reasonably affordable range.
We highly suggest scouting out and saving the places you want to go in a Google Maps you can open and not close or download for directions. We have two different phone service providers and neither had great service but since we had our full trip pulled up from the start the GPS took us exactly where we wanted to go with no problem.
Our Grand Teton Experience:
Ross's Rating: 10/10
Crystal's Rating: 10/10
From Ross the Rockhound: Absolutely incredible place. Breathtaking and mind-blowing, the shear beauty of this mountain range. Thoroughly enjoyed the different views all around the park, from ground level to near by hills.
From Crystal the Meathead: Grand Teton National Park is truly breathtaking. This is the park I would go back to for a relaxing, beautiful get away. I really enjoyed that we were able to see so much of it from the truck in one day and not feel like we missed out on much! If Grand Teton isn't on your bucket list it should be now. I am glad we went in late May. We got an incredible snowy mountain few without having to deal with actual snow!
Ross's Rating: 9.5/10 | Crystal's Rating: 9/10
Jackson Hole is NOT Grand Teton National Park. It is the nearby town with the Jackson Hole Resort and Teton Village.
The town of Jackson Hole has a lively, Wyoming-esque downtown and the resort is definitely worth a stop to walk around for shopping.
If you have it in your budget and it is running RIDE THE Gondola! It is a beautiful ride to the top, the view is incredible, and the waffles and hot cocoa available at the top are perfect, but this is definitely a splurge at a whopping $33/ticket WITH the $7/ticket online reservation system discount.

A must see and great photo op!
This is where you will find THE Grand Teton Barn. The parking is tight but it is easy to find and easy to get a great postcard quality picture. You can tour one of the old houses as well but we were there for the sights more than the history.

Hidden Falls - Worth every step!
One of the most popular places in Grand Teton. With only one day we selected our hike carefully and man did we pick good! An easy, but long 4.9 mile round trip with a FANTASTIC waterfall payoff!
If you take the boat it will cut your hike length significantly! Unfortunately we missed the boat by 15 minutes. SMH

Fun steep drive up Signal Mountain with a beautiful view.
Ross's Rating: 8/10 | Crystal's Rating: 8.5/10
On our way up Signal Mountain we passed Jackson Overlook, stopped on our way down and THIS is the overlook to see! Must better than Signal.
Trip Extras + Supporting Local
Tons of shops at Teton Village and around Jackson Hole! If we had an extra day we would have spent some of it downtown soaking in the local area!
